BHX - BOBBY HEBERT EXPERIENCE
5:00 PM TO 6:00 PM www.reverbnation.com/bobbyhebertexperience BOBBY HEBERT EXPERIENCE Bobby Hebert is an accomplished bassist, music producer, band leader and promoter. His current project, The bobby hebert experience, is considered to be one of Hamilton's top bands. The Hamilton Spectator referred to the band as the finest assemblage of Canadian music makers anytime, anywhere. Performing regularly to packed clubs in Hamilton, including the very popular Hess Village, Hamilton's music Mecca from 1999 to 2003, Bobby continues to build a strong and loyal following. His 5 string Fender Jazz Bass is a powerful tool of expression for him on stage and anchors the sound of his band into a deep soulful groove. Bobby's history in the Canadian Music Scene dates back to the 60's. During that time, he co-founded the Jameson Roberts Blues Band with guitarist, singer and songwriter Ron Marinelli, a group that was listed in RPM Magazine as on of the top 100 bands in Canada. The band was also voted number one in the Hamilton Spectator newspaper Readers Choice poll in 1969. They recorded their first original single at Daniel Lanois's first historic home recording studio in Ancaster. Bobby has shared stages with such bands as Bob Seger, The Amboy Dukes and Mandala. His band was also booked to open for Cream at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit, and Wayne Cochrane and the CC Riders, featuring Jaco Pastorius on bass. Additionally, he played bass for several Hamilton based bands including Tranquility Base, with Ian Thomas and Nora Hutchinson, and Flapping, with Ron Marinelli and Buzz Sherman. He also promoted a number of high profile music events in Hamilton, including the Jammers from the Juno's Concert Series, beginning in 1996, and the 1999 Hamilton Spring Music Festival. He also co-founded the Pearl Factory on Steven street in 2002 as a centre for arts. He founded the Gore Park Music Festival. In 2003 for the Downtown Hamilton BIA.. He founded the Burlington Jazz’n Blues Festival in 2004. The Festival is now in it’s 7th year of operation and has hosted over 200,000 people. The Festival also features the Eco symposium and the United Way Seniors Day. In 1999 Bobby produced and played bass for two Burlington Indie artists with Vezi Tayyeb at Kensington Sound in Toronto - John Burns ‘Out’, and Marla Jane, ‘I Live My Life’. B He has also released, ‘Blues From the Hammer’, which he produced, arranged and on which he played bass, is world class. With the help of executive producer and lead vocalist Bryon Walpole this CD is pure Hamilton. From the inspired keyboard work of Canadian greats Denis Keldie and Jesse O'Brien to the guitar tracks of local hometown blues guitar master Colin Philips, this inspired CD rocks the blues. Bobby was especially pleased to work with Steve Negus of Saga fame as the CD's mixing and mastering engineer. Bobby recently worked in a key role with cellist and jazz musician, Dr. Alan Stelling in the mixing of Alan’s CD release ‘Alan Stellings Play’s Oscar Peterson’. A very unique and original four part cello representation of Oscar’s famed Canadiana Suite. Bobby plans to release to live CD’s in the near future. Jameson Roberts Blues Band Revival Concert and BHX Live at the Tribute to Jeff Healey Concert. Bobby is also recording a spiritual CD of Indian chants in Montreal beginning in October this year for release into the East Indian market. He believes that mantras are mind releasing and this CD will provide many benefits to the listener. The other members of his band include lead vocalist Steven Ambrose and lead guitarist Brian Griffith. Brian has been awarded top Hamilton Guitarist at the Hamilton Music Awards. He has toured with Willie Nelson and Daniel Lanois who are very close friends of Brian. Brian is a s good as it gets on the guitar anywhere and anyplace. Steven was raised, the son of a gospel singer, in Toronto, Canada. Summer holidays were spent singing Gospel with dad and brothers touring the U.S.A and Canada. His music remained a family thing all through his teens and 20s with recording and performing projects. Steven says "I sang harmony with my brother James on his first recording in New York 1967." Steven Finally, he could wait no more and went downtown to sing with bar bands. 1979 was a very interesting year. Steven sang around Toronto with 3 or 4 of the hottest bands (just guesting). He had a unique approach to Rhythm & Blues and so it was an obvious good choice for Prakash John, having spent 5 years touring and recording with Alice Cooper and Lou Reed, to pick Ambrose as the lead singer of The Lincolns. The Lincolns, from day one in 1979, were a hit and continue to be a hit to this day. Upon entering Vancouver the billboard read "Best Bar Band in Canada". Steven was approached to do commercials, radio shows and television shows. After 6 years with The Lincolns, Steven went out on his own and travelled to Los Angeles. Many productive things were done in LA but Steven's popularity in Toronto demanded he come back. The Steven Ambrose Band was formed very quickly and shows were booked. Following that Steven, became the lead singer for a 12piece band, BRASSROUTES, and it started to make a name for itself. BRASSROUTES has had the biggest audience for four years running at the Beaches Jazz Festival in Toronto. In two evenings over 200 BRASSROUTES CDs were sold this past July. This festival features more than 50 auditioned bands performing throughout the community of the Beaches. In 1995, Steven decided he must do a solo album and have a product to sell to his fans. Steven wrote, produced and recorded "Well Above The Norm". This album features some of Toronto's most talented players: Jay Speciali (now playing bass with Sass Jordan), Gary Breit (keyboard player with The Lincolns and Amanda Marshall, Kevin Breit (guitar player who has worked with Holly Cole, K.D. Lang, Janis Ian, Casandra Wilson and Bruce Springsteen's wife) and Charlie Coolie, drummer with Amanda Marshall. Having known, admired and learned from Steven for many years, these players jumped at the opportunity to record his album. Many songwriters submitted tunes. A Shirley Eickhart (writer of "Let's Give Them Something To Talk About" recorded by Bonnie Raitt) tune and a Lloyd Landa tune made it to the final product. There is one more CD in the can and ready for release with the "Voodoo Sex Junkies" another original project. BRASSROUTES is working on their third release and the material is written for Steven's next solo project (a drum and vocal album). Other areas of interest in the arts has emerged for Steven over the past few years as well. Acting is one and Steven has been on hundreds of films as a stand in (for Gary Busey most recently), stuntman, actor (speaking part) in "I Love A Man In Uniform" and extra. During the recording of "Well Above The Norm", Steven started drawing and created the cover art for that album. From that, 300 more drawings were produced within a year and were displayed in a gallery in Toronto. Music still remains the main focus of Steven's extensive talents as he feels this is the best way for him to "speak" to people and create an inspiring, good affect. The desire to sing for mankind is heard through Steven's song "Lullaby To Planet Earth" on his solo album. The desire to inspire and create a good affect is seen as one watches the audience during one of Steven's performances. Steven is a consummate artist. Steven has been singing with BHX for 15 years across gigs in Ontario. Steven and Bobby are two life long soul brothers.

Paradigm Shift with Mel Henderson
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM https://www.paradigmshiftjazz.com Nearly 2 decades after its inception Paradigm Shift the brainchild of Melvin Henderson was formed to promote the idea of storytelling through music. Henderson who was born in the mid fifties, grew up and was influenced by many great guitarist of his time such as George Benson, and Wes Montgomery (and just about anyone who plays great guitar). Their influences can be heard in his playing. After attending Berklee School of Music in the mid-seventies, Melvin performed in Boston and New York with his own group, the East West Band, which included Tommy Campbell on drums. In the early 80's Melvin toured and recorded with Al Jarreau, Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, Cheryl Lynn, Roy Ayers, to name just a few. After returning to his hometown Rochester, New York, in the mid-eighties he opened his own jazz club called Indigos. Indigos featured such jazz greats as Wynton Marsalis, Mel Lewis, Kenny Burrell, Joe Locke, Johnny Griffin, Barney Kessel, Joe Lovano, Bill Frisell and many more. After two years of running Indigos, during which Melvin had little time to perform, he decided to close the club and return to playing full time again. In the following years Melvin shared the stage with such jazz greats as Jack McDuff, Urbie Green, Houston Person, Joe Locke and Doctor Lonnie Smith. With Paradigm Shift with Eric Alexander, Bobby Militello, Fred Wesley and David "Fathead" Newman, while continuing to compose and perform his own music. Even though their path had crossed many times before, Gerry Youngman, who attended Berklee School of Music as a trumpeter, joined forces with Melvin in the late 80's. Prior to attending Berklee, Gerry studied with Rochester's Chuck Mangione. While at Berklee, under the direction of Phil Wilson, Gerry performed with Claudio Roditti, Mark Elf, Hal Crook, and others in the Thursday Night Dues Band. Gerry has shared the stage with many top names in the music world, including Lou Donaldson, Gerry Niewood, Gary Burton, and the great Thad Jones. Drummer Jared Schonig was born in Los Angeles on August 12, 1983. His parents, both professional musicians, encouraged him at an early age to take up the piano. After studying classical piano for 11 years he decided to switch to the drums (his fathers instrument) during his frist year of high school. Jared attended the prestigious Hamilton Academy of Music in Los Angeles, California, where he had the pleasure in performing with George Duke, Eric Marienthal, Bobby Rodriguez, and a number of All-County and City honor groups. During his three years at Hamilton, Jared was the recipient of 4 Downbeat Student Music Awards, including a 'Best Soloist' honor his senior year, in 2001. Jared attended the prestigious Eastman School of Music and studied with Rich Thompson. While at Eastman he performed with the Bionic Bones with Fred Wesley and Steve Turre, the Eastman New Jazz Ensemble, Harold Danko's JPW a (Jazz Performance Workshop), and the Eastman Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Bill Dobbins. During his time at Eastman, Jared won three more Downbeat Student Music Awards; in 2002 for his pseudo-funk/jazz band Groove Brewery and in 2004 for his JPW The Verytall Band, "which was recognized as the nations top collegiate combo, as well as another "Best Soloist" honor. After Jared moved to New York City, Sean Jefferson joined the group on drums. Sean recently received his Masters degree in music education at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY where he was awarded an assistantship for the duration of his studies. Sean has had many great teachers including John W. McNeill Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra), Ben Parris (Maskaraid Productions, LLC & NEMeSIS Records), Dave Mancini (Maynard Ferguson, Chuck Mangione, Rosemary Clooney), Dr. Eric Schmitz (SUNY Oswego, Russell Scarbrough Big Band), Mike Melito (Chris Potter, James Moody, Chuck Mangione, Bob Sneider). During that time he has had the privilege to perform with such notable artists as Dr. Lonnie Smith, Jeff Tyzik, Paradigm Shift, Alvin Parris III, Gray Mayfield, Terrance Bruce, and Bill Tiberio. Sean recently recorded an album with his group The Jazz Mad Lab. The album is set to release in spring 2008. Currently he is performing exclusively with two groups, The Jazz Mad Lab & Paradigm Shift. In addition to an extensive performance career, Sean teaches drumset and percussion privately in Rochester, NY and has done so for the past 6 years. As Paradigm Shift the trio has performed with David 'Fathead' Newman, Eric Alexander, Wycliffe Gordon, Marcus Printup, Fred Wesley, Bobby Militello, and Joe Locke. The Crooner Legends show with Vili V.
2:00 PM - 3:30 PM On Friday, the festival features the fourth annual United Way Seniors’ Day starting at 2 p.m. Seniors can enjoy the Crooner Legends show with the fabulous voice of Burlington resident Vili V. performing the music of Frank Sinatra, Roy Orbison, Bobby Darin and all the greats. This is a show performed by one of Canada's rising singing stars Vili V. Free seniors tickets, including vegetarian dinner, a program and reserved seating are available at the United Way office at 429 Elizabeth St., Unit C. Vili V BIO Singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Vili V (Vili Verhovsek) was born to be a musician. Originally from Hamilton, Ont., this passionate artist has been inspiring audiences with his unique sound, charisma and charm since the age of 17. And the moment he hits the stage with guitar in hand, his songs invite the listener into a musical conversation meant to uplift the spirit. His new independent album The Journey does just that. Vili V has been a musician for most of his life. By age 16, he was regularly performing in church and private events. By age 18, he won the 1996 Collingwood Elvis Tribute Championship – which is second only to Graceland's in prestige. And as he continued to hone his skills several awards followed, including a Top 10 finish at the YTV Achievement Awards. In 2000, Vili found his niche and decided to become a solo artist, upon graduating from Mohawk College's music program. His blend of classic rock ‘n’ roll, roots and inspirational music has allowed him to tour in places such as Slovenia, New York, Tennessee, British Columbia and Quebec with appearances on radio and television. He's performed with such Canadian icons as rock legend Ronnie Hawkins and Polka king Walter Ostanek, and shared the stage with international comedy superstar Russell Peters. In 2003 Vili released his debut album Indigo Blue on the Sextant/EMI label, a project that he wrote and co-produced. As music critic Jeff Mahoney wrote in The Hamilton Spectator, “The record is a powerful debut. Vili Verhovsek’s voice delivers the music with great command and identity.” One song from the album was even featured in a movie screened at the Cannes International Film Festival in France. But at the same time, Vili yearned to create more inspirational music. His new album The Journey features mostly original songs that connect with the human condition, and in it, he plays all the instruments – including guitar, piano, organ and percussion. “It’s important that each of my songs speak to people,” says Vili. “The song ‘Young Man (Leave Your Guns at Home)’ was inspired by a shooting that took place outside a church in Toronto. I had to write a song that would get the message out about gun violence in the city.” Vili’s passion for people is also shown in his charity work for organizations such as the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, the Canadian Red Cross and several church ministries. website: http://www.vilimusic.com http://www.facebook.com/vilivmusic This is a special show for the Seniors Day given by Vili.Vili is a fantastic singer and show man.
